What Are Exosomes?

Exosomes are tiny vesicles released by cells that carry proteins, growth factors, and genetic material. They act as messengers between cells, triggering repair and regeneration processes.

Exosomes are used in conjunction with microneedling to achieve delivery into the skin. They’re proven to significantly amplify the results of cosmetic procedures. The price includes the microneedling treatment.

From the first contact, Shetha’s knowledge and professionalism were abundantly clear. She gave me an incredibly thorough, hour-long consultation and really got to know me and my needs. Shetha really listened to me and what stands out is her honesty. She absolutely wouldn’t sell you something you don’t need but she will provide you with all of the information you need to make an informed decision. Having a consultant plastic surgeon in the aesthetics field means you get the full holistic package of recommendations, knowledge and experience. Not only that but her techniques are excellent and I’ve never been happier with aesthetic results. I had lip and cheek filler and some Botox with Shetha and I’ll definitely be coming back. Elsewhere, I’ve found previously that lip filler can sometimes feel lumpy. I’m pleased that with Shetha, I don’t have that at all, my lips feel like mine but look more even and full. Basically, I look like me on a really good day!

I am currently undergoing a treatment journey with Dr Shetha for my acne scarring using Sofwave. I had my first treatment last week, and Dr Shetha couldn't have made me feel more at ease and reassured during the session. She made sure to explain everything throughly, and go at my pace when it got a bit spicy! I am already receiving compliments on my skin, which has boosted my confidence. This is just the start of my skin journey with Dr Shetha, and I can't wait to see my full results down the line. If you are looking for a safe and reliable practitioner, you can't find better than Dr Shetha. She cares about her patients before anything! Looking forward to returning for my next treatment.

I had a consultation with Shetha last week and was absolutely blown away by her kindness, her listening skills and her professionalism. Shetha is warm and welcoming, she listens to your concerns without talking over you (as I have experienced with other aesthetics practitioners) and there is no pressure to take any particular treatment. Shetha did not rush me and clearly explained all of my possible options. She explained the pros and cons of each treatment clearly which was really helpful for me to consider which ones worked best for me without influence. She is clearly an expert in her field and extremely passionate about what she does. I cannot wait to have my treatments done knowing that I will be in safe hands. Thankyou for your time and patience Shetha. See you soon! 🥰

Frequently Asked Questions

Exosomes are naturally occurring vesicles released from cells, carrying molecules for intercellular communication. In skincare, exosomes, which may be derived from numerous sources, are used to carry bioactive molecules, in addition to nutrients, in order to communicate between cells and stimulate skin regeneration. This results in cellular regeneration, improved wound healing, reduced inflammation and reduction in oxidative stress, leading to improved skin rejuvenation.

Exosomes are used to stimulate targeted cellular functions, such as fibroblast activity, to increase migration, proliferation and collagen production, in order to improve skin quality and rejuvenation. Additionally, exosomes reduce tyrosinase, melanin and oxidative stress, resulting in the reduction of hyperpigmentation and increased skin brightening, improving one’s overall complexion.

Exosomes are used in conjunction with devices in order to achieve delivery into the skin. They are used to improve skin quality by reducing fine lines and rhytids (wrinkles), improving skin rejuvenation leading to plumper, firmer skin and reducing hyperpigmentation to even and brighten your complexion. Due to their mechanism of action, they may be used to improve hair growth and follicle/scalp health and scar remodelling. Exosomes are proven to significantly amplify the results of cosmetic procedures, such as microneedling.

Exosomes are suitable for all skin types and although their use in skincare is relatively new, they have a good safety profile.

You will meet our plastic surgery consultant, Miss Shetha Naji, for a face-to-face consultation. You will have a full medical and aesthetic consultation detailing your desires and concerns, and following a thorough and systematic assessment, a treatment plan will be devised. This will include a detailed explanation of the procedure itself, associated risks and aftercare. There is no obligation to undertake any treatment.

If you wish to proceed, the treatment, which is used in conjunction with microneedling, will typically last no longer than 30 minutes. Most patients describe the sensation from the microneedling as light pressure or mild buzzing. No local anaesthetic is required for this treatment. The exosomes are used topically during and after the microneedling procedure.

Detailed aftercare advice is given following the procedure. Your skin will appear red, and possibly swollen for up to five days, but typically these subside within 48 hours and is owing to the microneedling, not use of exosomes. Sun exposure should be avoided until your skin is healed, similar to a mild sunburn. Use of exosomes have been proven to reduce the downtime associated with the delivery method i.e. the microneedling.

We do advise against having any aesthetic treatments immediately prior to any formal or significant event.

Comparative studies of microneedling vs microneedling with exosome use show the results are superior with the concomitant use of exosomes. The improvement in fine lines, rhytids and texture, take several weeks due to their cellular effects, but are faster than with microneedling alone. Results are seen within a few weeks.

Results are seen within a few weeks and can last up to 6 months
